Award-winning Western Australian hospitality operator Nokturnl Pty Ltd has been selected as the preferred proponent to reinvigorate the Market Hall at Yagan Square, with a proposal that would see a vibrant new destination created in the heart of the CBD.

The proposal would see Nokturnl deliver a hospitality and event space in the reconfigured Market Hall, providing multi-use options for visitors and tourists.

The selection of a preferred proponent follows the completion of an Expression of Interest (EOI) process launched in September last year.

The process sought qualified proponents to identify options for the future use of Market Hall, seeking innovative commercial, cultural and/or community uses to increase visitation and activation of the Yagan Square precinct and integrate with the broader Perth City Link development.

A number of responses were received through the EOI process, which was managed by DevelopmentWA on behalf of the State Government, with most relating to hospitality uses.

The company operates the award-winning The Old Synagogue in Fremantle, which comprises four unique hospitality venues within a state heritage-listed site, with a second venue – The Beaufort in Mt Lawley, which opened last month and is already proving to be highly popular.

DevelopmentWA will now commence an exclusive negotiation period with Nokturnl. This involves working with the proponent to finalise the concept ensuring best use of available space within the Yagan Square precinct.

The announcement comes as the State Government prepares to launch an exciting program of activations and events at Yagan Square, with the precinct to be become a must-visit destination across Autumn and Winter.

From May to July, visitors to Yagan Square will be able to enjoy a range of engaging and entertaining experiences, with the proposed program to potentially include pop-up markets, live music, film, and cultural performances.
