The sustainability credentials of LandCorp's WGV estate in White Gum Valley have been delivered a vote of confidence with sustainability expert Dr Martin Anda amongst the first people to start building homes at the estate.

Dr Anda, the Academic Chair of Environmental Engineering at Murdoch University, said WGV was the best example of sustainable property development in the Perth market.

"As far as urban development's go in Perth, WGV is as good as it gets. I'm looking forward to seeing how the market, other homebuyers and the building industry locally respond to the project," Dr Anda said.

"I chose to build my home here for three main reasons; the well-thought-out sustainability features, the high standard of the facilities – landscaping and local amenities, and thirdly the great location in the Fremantle area.

"The WGV estate has really good design guidelines which mean that as it develops, the area will demonstrate to people just what is possible when you want to build sustainably. Good design doesn't have to be expensive or complex but it can be hard for people to find clear and relevant information on genuine sustainability features.

"Now people will be able to visit the area and pick up ideas from a pocket of attractive, comfortable and cost-efficient sustainable homes, integrated into an established community."

Dr Anda has joined with friends to develop a building on Lot 4 Mouquet Vista, which will provide two homes and make the most of the 270sqm block by incorporating a range of shared facilities such as a rainwater tank, veggie gardens, roof terrace and solar PV system.

The building was designed by Richard Hammond and David Robinson from South Fremantle based Richard Hammond Architect. It is hoped the build will get underway in late August and take about nine months to complete.

If you are interested in purchasing land in one of Australia's most environmentally progressive developments, you'll need to act quickly. Only seven of the 23 single residential lots remain.

Priced from $345,000, the last lots range from 276sqm to 321sqm and each purchase includes a $10,000 sustainability package and a design consultation with the WGV estate architect.

The two hectare residential estate is on the former Kim Beazley School site, opposite the Royal Fremantle Golf Course, less than 3kms from the centre of Fremantle and only 600m from local shops and cafes.
