Ocean Reef Marina

The new breakwaters are underway!

Works on the southern and northern marina breakwaters have begun with a massive 650,000 tonnes of limestone and 300,000 tonnes of granite now being placed in the water.

Stretching for two-kilometres, each breakwater is up to 18.5 metres high from the ocean floor.

Construction of the new breakwaters and removal of the old breakwaters is expected to be complete in mid to late 2022.

These works follow the extensive testing of the marina and breakwater design, which includes the construction of a 1:55 scale model.

Two local WA businesses - WA Limestone and Italia Stone Group are undertaking the works.

All  required approvals have been received from the Department of Water and Environmental Regulation and Western Australian Planning Commission.

For boating safety, a 50m monitored exclusion zone around the breakwaters is in place and a flashing buoy is located 100m from both tips and will move as they grow. Existing boat harbour activity can continue.
