The new heart of Karratha. Welcome to The Quarter
The Quarter in Karratha is home to a four-storey retail and commercial building, car park and two three-storey residential buildings with 46 apartments.
Built on the site of the former aquatic centre at the top of Sharpe Avenue, The Quarter was designed with elements of a city square, with community space for market stalls, performances and exhibitions.
With a population of 25,000 and a large fly in fly out (FIFO) community, Karratha has become the powerhouse of the Pilbara with major resource companies such as Rio Tinto, Dampier Salt and Woodside operating in the region.
The last few years have seen a dramatic transformation of Karratha from what was once a purely functional mining town, into a major City of the North. Karratha continues to grow and offer modern services, facilities and amenity for a permanent family oriented community.
Some of this transformation is occurring on the fringes, with suburban expansion providing much-needed relief to recent housing pressures as well as the major redevelopment of the town centre, aimed at providing capacity for up to 50,000 people over the next 20 years.
With the support of State Government funding we are delivering a mixed use precinct that redefines Karratha as a major regional city. This approach ensures that Karratha is a true modern 'City of the North'.
The Quarter is the centrepiece of this transformation, offering a mixed use precinct including retail stores, cafes, restaurants, residential apartments and further development in the future. The Quarter's eye-catching design has been designed to be environmentally responsive, whilst capturing the spirit of the Pilbara.
The commercial "HQ" and apartment precincts are now complete with the first tenants moving in.
