Following the State Government’s Machinery of Government review in 2017, a number of Land Agency Reforms have been implemented to provide greater efficiencies and strengthen the Government’s ability to deliver priority projects such as METRONET. As part of this review, DevelopmentWA is progressing project handover in consultation with the City of Perth for the Perth Cultural Centre Precinct.
Project handover involves returning planning authority for the area to the Western Australian Planning Commission and the local government, in this case the City of Perth. This includes strategic and statutory planning and asset management.
- The Perth Cultural Centre (PCC) is home to many of the State’s major cultural and educational institutions including the WA Museum, Art Gallery of WA, Perth Institute of Contemporary Arts, The Blue Room Theatre, State Library of WA, State Records Office, North Metropolitan TAFE and the State Theatre Centre of WA.
- Through a place making approach commenced in 2009, MRA transformed the precinct into a premier events destination, a favourite meeting spot for many and a vibrant and active place West Australians can be proud of.
- Works included the creation of an urban orchard and native wetland, landscaping and lighting improvements, free wifi, food and beverage outlets, a play space and a giant LED screen.
- Total Government investment in the precinct is $508million which includes MRA, new WA Museum and other government funding.
