In 2014, the State Government announced Hamilton Senior High School and South Fremantle Senior High School would be amalgamated to form Fremantle College, a new independent public secondary school with state-of-the-art facilities located at the South Fremantle Senior High School site.
DevelopmentWA has been asked to take on the revitalisation of the school site based on its award-winning track record in transforming school sites across Perth into thriving new communities.
DevelopmentWA hopes to build upon the existing strong relationship between the school and the community through the design and built form process, to create a community that seamlessly integrates with the surrounding area.
The first stage of the project will be released to the market in late 2020, launching the transformation of Hamilton Senior High School into a sustainable, residential redevelopment that will create a new thriving community close to excellent transport links and established infrastructure.
Similar projects have been successfully delivered at WGV at White Gum Valley, on the former site of the Kim Beazley School, and at three former Coolbellup school sites in the City of Cockburn.
Local Structure Plan
DevelopmentWA met with the local community and stakeholders between November 2016 and August 2017, to seek input into the vision and development of a draft concept plan for the transformation of Hamilton SHS into a new thriving community. The local structure plan was submitted to the City of Cockburn and advertised for public comment on Tuesday 23 October 2018.
The plan has now been approved by the Department of Planning Lands and Heritage.
