AWESOME arrives at Yagan Square

From 29 September to 3 October, AWESOME Arts Festival returns to Perth, bringing an exciting program of performances, workshops, storytelling and creative experiences for children and families.

Yagan Square is proud to once again be one of the festival's metro hubs, offering a week of free activities designed to inspire creativity, curiosity and connection.

Visually striking and highly interactive, the extraordinary Madame Penelope and her exotic pets add spice and humour wherever they go.

Dressed to kill and everybody’s friend, the classy Madame Penelope loves to show off her well-trained pets. That is if she can catch them!

Her ever curious and playful lizards are off to explore the territory. She has her work cut out for her trying to get them back off the adoring public.

High-status, restrained and ridiculous, three Security Guards turn queuing and crowd control into an art form! Subverting status, passers-by are seduced, corralled, and sorted, turning the collective act of waiting and queuing into a series of interactive games that get increasingly absurd.

Lines are drawn and crossed, rules are made and broken, audiences are invited, coercion into a participatory performance, uniting an audience of strangers in the spirit of play.

Take a dreamily absurd and comically surreal voyage in the Boat of Faith, with Mr Curly at the helm. Ask the “direction finding duck” for directions, get caught in Mr Curly’s net of possibilities or be embraced by an angel.

Funky, fashionable and funny, The Zebras know how to get a party started. With their own groovy dance tracks, they create a sense of play and connection across age, culture and gender. Think bold stripes, wild dance moves and animals with serious style.

They're bringing the disco back to the streets, one hoof at a time.
