Frequently Asked Questions
Alkimos Central FAQs
What transport options will there be?
Alkimos Central is one of the first transit oriented developments to be delivered in the northern suburbs through the METRONET program. Alkimos Station opened for services on Monday 15 July 2024, and includes a bus interchange located opposite the station entrance, to allow easy transfer between bus and train services.
As the project grows, further transport planning for the precinct includes roads, cycle and pedestrian networks.
What is Alkimos Central?
Alkimos Central is a 200ha master planned community, representing the largest planned concentration of employment, business and economic activity between Joondalup and Yanchep. It is part of a broader Alkimos area, which includes DevelopmentWA’s multi-award winning Alkimos Beach, developed in partnership with Lendlease, and Alkimos Vista, also developed with Lendlease, and a future Alkimos foreshore development.
Over the next 20-30 years, Alkimos Central is expected to deliver:
- 2,450 residential dwellings*
- 250,000sqm of commercial office floor space
- Up to 72,000sqm of retail
- 45,000sqm of bulky goods
- A train station and bus interchange
- Health facilities
- Primary school (with potential for secondary and tertiary facilities)
- Civic, community and recreational facilities (starting with Alkimos Aquatic Recreation Centre - AARC)
- 21.74% site percentage as Public Open Space (POS)
Note* Alkimos central allows for a range of dwelling options including single houses, townhouses, grouped dwellings and apartments, and will include a range of social and affordable housing.
Where is Alkimos Central located?
Alkimos Central is located 40km north of Perth between Joondalup and Yanchep. It is located between Marmion Avenue and the Mitchell Freeway, approximately 2.5km from the coast. Romeo Road is the major east-west distributor road that connects the centre to the Freeway and the coast.
How big is Alkimos Central?
DevelopmentWA’s Alkimos Central development covers 200ha. This is approximately 80 per cent the size of Joondalup City Centre, which was also planned and delivered by DevelopmentWA (formerly LandCorp).
Will there be a school?
A state primary school is intended to be provided, and there are opportunities to accommodate a private high school or tertiary education facility.
What community facilities will there be?
Alkimos Central has been identified to have a City of Wanneroo managed Library, Civic and Community Centre, as well as an Indoor Recreation and Aquatic facility (Alkimos Aquatic and Recreation Centre - AARC, which is currently under construction). Over time, we expect the site to attract other leisure and entertainment amenities such as retail, cinemas, restaurants and other food and beverage establishments.
How long will it take to develop?
Alkimos Central is long term master planned community expected to be delivered over the next 20 to 30 years.
The METRONET program for the Yanchep Rail Extension is nearing completion, with passenger services to formally commence on Monday 15 July 2024.
The next stages of development will consist of commercial and residential lots, expected to commence in late 2025, subject to approvals.
