The draft District Structure Plan and Environmental Appraisal proposes a total area of 234ha to be established as a conservation area. This is in accordance with the EPA section 16 advice (2008), and includes both state and privately owned land.

This area will be protected from development and enhanced through the implementation of an Environmental Management and Enhancement Package. The WAPC has determined the District Structure Plan will not be approved without the relevant State and Federal approvals in place.
