When you think of Perth, it’s the city’s stunning coastline that usually comes to mind. But in just 10 years, Elizabeth Quay has redefined the city skyline – and carved out a spot as one of Perth’s best places to visit.
Destination WA’s Kelly Haywood recently explored the precinct to experience it for herself. Her takeaway? Elizabeth Quay showcases the best of WA – beautiful waterways, natural surrounds, great food and a packed events calendar. As she puts it, it’s well worth the visit.
Where the city meets the river
Elizabeth Quay is situated in the heart of the Perth CBD. Whether you’re arriving by ferry, train or bus, it’s easy to get to and explore.
It’s also one of the best places to get out on the water. Wild West Charters run a number of different boat tours that show off the natural beauty of the Swan River. Keep an eye out for dolphins, black swans and ospreys, or simplynjoy the view as you cruise past the city and take in some of its best sights.
A place for storytelling and culture
There’s more to Elizabeth Quay than great views. You can also discover fascinating stories and cultural insights through the free self-guided public art walk.
One standout artwork is the First Contact sculpture by renowned WA artist Laurel Nannup. The sculpture tells the Dreamtime story about the Noongar people’s first encounter with European settlers, interpreting their ships’ white sails as ancestral spirits returning across the water. It’s a powerful and reflective artwork - and just one of many artworks that honour local Aboriginal culture.
There are also regular free cultural tours offered at Elizabeth Quay at selected times of the year. These guided experiences offer a deeper look into the local cultural history, exploring the Noongar people’s unique spiritual connection to Boodjah (Country) and how the six seasons influence day to day life.
A place for everyone
Elizabeth Quay isn’t just for tourists. It’s a place that locals have fallen in love with. With a packed events calendar, it’s not hard to see why. From captivating art installations to lively twilight markets, cultural festivals and celebrations – there is always something to see and do at Elizabeth Quay.
Got children in tow? There is also plenty to keep the kids entertained. The island playground, BHP Water Park and Elizabeth Quay Carousel make it a go-to for family fun on the weekend or during school holidays.
Perth’s best waterfront dining
You can’t mention Elizabeth Quay without talking about the incredible waterfront dining options at the precinct. Whether it’s world-class fine dining, fresh oysters by the water, international flavours or classic fish and chips, there’s something for every taste at Elizabeth Quay.
Pull up a seat with a river view and settle in for a long lunch or a sunset cocktail. And later this year, you’ll be able to grab a cold beer from Little Creatures, with their new waterfront venue set to open right in the heart of the precinct.
Still evolving—and still very Perth
It’s hard to believe that Elizabeth Quay will celebrate 10 years in 2026. In a short time, Elizabeth Quay has become one of Perth’s most loved destinations—and it’s only getting better. Whether you’re in the mood for culture, nature, urban energy or just a good coffee with a great view, this vibrant precinct has something for everyone.
