Subi East FAQs

The Subi East Redevelopment is committed to honouring Subiaco's rich cultural heritage. Preserving the unique character of the site is integral to this project. For information specific to each precinct at Subi East, please refer to The Oval or 1909.

While DevelopmentWA does not determine the allocation of social or affordable housing, we work closely with government partners to deliver outcomes that are consistent with broader housing policy set by the government.

Upon completion, Subi East will provide land for a mix of housing options – including private, affordable, and social housing – to support different incomes, life stages and household types.

The site of the former Princess Margaret Hospital (PMH) is being transformed into a connected residential community that raises the bar on inner-city apartment living. For more information about 1909, please visit this page.

The first stage of Subi East involves transforming the land around Subiaco Oval site into a mixed-use residential community. For more information about The Oval, please visit this page.

DevelopmentWA is the State Government’s land development agency, creating exceptional places for Western Australia. It is the planning authority for the Subiaco Redevelopment area, or the Subi East project, which comprises two major precincts:

The Subi East Redevelopment will deliver 2700 new homes over the next 20 years. This includes:

  • 1,000 homes at The Oval
  • 1,000 homes at 1909, and
  • 700 homes at the Railway Precinct.

Subi East Redevelopment Area is bound by Haydn Bunton Drive, Roberts Road, Thomas Street and the Perth-Fremantle railway line in the suburb of Subiaco, Western Australia.

Subi East is one of Western Australia’s most significant urban redevelopment projects. Spanning 35 hectares, the project brings together Subiaco Oval, the former Princess Margaret Hospital site, Mueller Park, and the new Bob Hawke College. Once complete, Subi East will deliver a vibrant inner-city village just 4km from the Perth CBD – home to more than 4,000 residents and surrounded by green open spaces, public art, and modern community amenities.
