A state of growth

The Industrial Lands Authority (ILA) takes a leading role in driving Western Australia’s economic diversification and jobs growth by delivering industrial land for strategic, general, special and light industrial use.

Operating as a core business unit of DevelopmentWA, the ILA operates state-wide delivering strategically-located land to support private investment and unlock future development options.

Driving Industrial Development

Ensuring the supply of strategically located and well-serviced industrial land is critical to supporting the industries that drive the economic prosperity of our State — from large resource projects and new technology centres to small businesses in regional towns.

The ILA’s role is to plan for the development and long-term operation of industrial areas in a coordinated and sustainable way, to ensure ample supply of land to meet market demand.

By making it easier, more efficient and more affordable to access and develop industrial land in WA, the ILA ensures businesses can continue to plan for the future – creating jobs and encouraging economic diversity and growth.

Meeting the future needs of WA

Recognising the importance of a whole-of-Government approach to industrial land, the ILA is guided by the Industrial Lands Steering Committee (ILSC) – comprising the Directors General from the Departments of Jobs, Tourism, Science and Innovation; Department of Transport; Department of Primary Industries and Regional Development; Department of Planning, Lands and Heritage; along with the CEO of DevelopmentWA.

The Committee provides strategic advice and guidance to the ILA Governing Board and staff and reports its progress to the Ministerial Offices of the ILSC. The Committee is also responsible for the preparation of a 10-year Industrial Land Strategy which was submitted in May 2021 to Infrastructure WA, to identify key infrastructure requirements for industrial land across WA.

Strategic Industrial Areas (SIAs)

Led by the Department of Jobs, Tourism, Science and Innovation and delivered by DevelopmentWA, Strategic Industrial Areas (SIAs) are located throughout Western Australia providing large, connected land areas available for long term lease, close to a skilled and productive workforce.

SIAs benefit from the WA State Government’s Lead Agency Framework, designed to ensure proponents can be guided effectively through approvals processes and know what is expected of them to bring complex business operations, new technologies, innovations and progressive operations to life.

Investment in one of our SIAs could place you alongside some of the world’s largest resource companies.
