Unique waterfront opportunity
The jewel in the crown for Bunbury is its unique waterfront, surrounded by the Indian Ocean to the West, the magnificent Koombana Bay to the north, and Leschenault Inlet to the east.
Recognising the enormous potential of the waterfront, the State Government, City of Bunbury, the South West Development Commission and DevelopmentWA have been investing heavily in the rejuvenation of the area, transforming it into a world-class destination and community hub.
In August 2011, the State Government announced approval of a $20.3million funding strategy for Stage 1 of the proposed Transforming Bunbury’s Waterfront development. This stage is referred to as Koombana North (Stage 1A) and Marlston North (Stage 1B).
The dramatic transformation of the waterfront to a sought-after coastal destination is providing better connectivity to the CBD and all precincts within the waterfront, picturesque family beaches (the Ski Beach has wheelchair access), and fantastic landscaped public open space with barbecue facilities, seating and viewing platforms over the magnificent Koombana Bay.
Development has introduced more choice of cafes and restaurants, retail and commercial offerings, tourism accommodation, and of course residential housing diversity through apartment living.
Bunbury Waterfront is set to attract substantial investment for Bunbury over the next 30 years and generate significant employment and business opportunities.
Developer opportunities now open.
A world-class waterfront development is taking shape in the thriving city of Bunbury - the gateway to the world-renowned South West - the fastest growing region in Western Australia. As the largest city outside of Perth-Peel, Bunbury is firmly placed to be WA’s second city.
Koombana North, the third waterfront precinct to be developed by DevelopmentWA, is a landmark site for the city, being the northern entrance to the CBD.
Landmark city site
Koombana North, is a landmark site for the city. The site is a 1.3ha area located right on the Koombana Bay foreshore. Structure Planning for Koombana North allows for five buildings, between 4 and 6 storeys, which will offer a mix of apartment living or short-stay on the upper floors and retail/hospitality/commercial space on the ground floor.
Bunbury’s waterfront is transforming into a landmark shoreline destination.
