About
In an evocative reimagining of the original Sign In 2000 project, this moment lives on in a stunning semi-circular artwork.

The millennium project had the signatures of 200,000 WA students printed on ceramic tiles laid around the base of the Bell Tower.

As the precinct’s redevelopment prevented the tiles being retained, digital records were kept to reinterpret this important piece of Perth’s social history. Linking to the friendship, commitment and love inherent in the symbolic giving of a ring,

Simon and Matthew’s artwork reinforces the cohesive community spirit at the heart of Sign In 2000, and gives original signatories the chance to share that moment with future generations by tracing over their names

About the millennium celebrations

In 1999, more than 200,000 WA students signed their names into history as part of the Sign In 2000 project, a millennium initiative celebrating young Western Australians.

"Sign in 2000", a major Millennium project, recognises the important role of young Western Australians in the future of the State.

The signing of these tiles was voluntary and open to all Western Australian students from pre-primary to Year 12, who attended school in 1999. These included overseas students who were residents of Western Australia, those in long-term hospital care and those who were home schooled. District Offices of the Education Department of WA also assisted in contacting their many home school students.

All of the collected signatures were transferred onto tiles and fired for permanency - thus creating this lasting monument.
