Rockingham Industry Zone

In November 2015 Rockingham Industry Zone become the first industrial estate in WA,
the largest in Australia and one of only three nationwide to achieve the
UDIA EnviroDevelopment certification.

EnviroDevelopment is a scientifically-based assessment scheme that independently reviews development projects and awards certification to those that achieve outstanding performance across four or more of the provided elements, or ‘leaves’ - Ecosystems, Waste, Energy, Materials, Water and Community.

EnviroDevelopment accreditation allows purchasers to recognise and, thereby, select more environmentally sustainable developments.

DevelopmentWA has achieved four of the six leaves for the Rockingham Industry Zone’s EnviroDevelopment certification – Ecosystem, Water, Energy and Community
marking the development as an outstanding sustainable project.

Just some of the elements that helped acheive the accrediation include:

  • Limbs of tuart trees with hollows will be attached to trees in the 90 hectare conservation area
  • Protection of Black Cockatoo habitat

  • Projected energy consumption based off the design guidelines is 52% less than a standard industrial development
  • Every development/tenant to achieve a minimum 30% improvement

  • Every development/tenant to achieve 20% reduction in non-potable water use compared to standard industrial development
  • Stormwater and rainwater to be recycled on every site to minimise scheme water
  • Rainwater tanks are mandatory for irrigation and toilet flushing

  • Rockingham Industry Zone has set a new benchmark for community within an industrial setting
  • Significant contribution to WA's economic output and employment opportunities
  • Historic, Aboriginal and natural values will be preserved
  • Areas provided for community and employee interaction
