About
This mosaic at the base of BHP Water Park tells a story of Noongar culture, land, and water. Created by Noongar artist Sandra Hill and ceramic artist Jenny Dawson, it reflects the milky way dreaming story, the Noongar six seasons, and the six ways meeting place, where Aboriginal people traditionally gathered by the water.
The flowing design represents the Derbal Yerrigan (Swan River), with blue circles marking Hyde Park Lake and Lake Monger, two of Perth’s last remaining lakes. The black circle symbolises the ongoing presence of Noongar people, while the red circle represents the bloodline of the past, present and future.
Rich in meaning and history, this mosaic is a lasting tribute to the deep connection between Noongar people and the land.
