Following the State Government’s Machinery of Government review in 2017, a number of Land Agency Reforms have been implemented to provide greater efficiencies and strengthen the Government’s ability to deliver priority projects such as METRONET. As part of this review, the Subi Centro Project Area (excluding the Australian Fine China Precinct) is programed for project handover. DevelopmentWA is progressing project handover in consultation with the City of Subiaco for the Subi Centro Project Area.
Project handover involves returning planning authority for the area to the Western Australian Planning Commission and local government, in this case the City of Subiaco. This includes strategic and statutory planning and asset management.
Key Points
- In 1994, the Subiaco Redevelopment Authority was formed and launched the revitalisation of Subiaco, beginning with reconnecting the surrounding suburbs by sinking the Subiaco train station. This created space for a new community with new highly sought-after homes and launched Perth’s first underground train station.
- Since 1995, the award winning Subi Centro project has transformed more than 80 hectares of former industrial land into one of Australia’s best urban renewal projects including a vibrant and sustainable mix of townhouses, apartments, parkland, commercial and retail space.
- State Government’s $200 million investment has facilitated private sector investment of $1 billion.
- A staged approach to the normalisation of Subi Centro will be taken with the Australian Fine China (AFC) Precinct programed for handover by 30 June 2026.
