Affordable and Social Living - Housing accelerator

Accelerated Social Housing Delivery

To fast-track the availability of social homes for those in need, DevelopmentWA has launched a program designed to deliver housing more efficiently that designs and builds small, grouped housing developments, in less than 12 months

Once complete, the developments will be transferred into the ownership of the Department of Housing and Works, to own and operate, providing a safe and secure home for families, couples and individuals in need of social housing.

The program aims to deliver:

  • Quality, architecturally designed, one- and two-bedroom social homes with an outdoor space, in small, grouped developments of 30 or less homes
  • Homes that meet silver livable standards - ensuring accessibility and adaptability for residents, including the elderly and people with disabilities
  • Homes with a 7star NatHERs Energy rating, that are energy efficient and comfortable, lowering residents’ energy bills and supporting the environment
  • Small grouped developments in existing residental areas, that are close to bus routes and meet medium density standard to reduce urban sprawl

This program accelerates the delivery time frame using:

  • Four simple designs, easily replicated through prefabricated build methods
  • Modern Methods of Construction (MMOC), such as prefabricated wall frames and roofs, are built offsite in factories, assembled onsite
