Digital Canopies
Artist: Bruce Ramus
As the sun sets over Yagan Square, the Digital Canopies transform the space into a canvas of light and colour. Inspired by the natural contours of Lake Goologoolup — once a vital meeting place and resource for the Whadjuk people — the canopies blend function with artistry.
By day, the curving canopies provide welcome shade and mirror the amphitheatre’s organic form. By night, the underside comes alive with a spectacular light installation, programmable to align with events and art showcases.
Extending beyond the main amphitheatre, a second, smaller canopy shelters the upper deck of the Horseshoe Lane building. Together, these architectural forms draw visitors upward to explore Yagan Square’s elevated spaces.
