Explore art and creativity in the centre of Perth 

Explore Tender Flesh by Liv McIntyre, an exhibition exploring feminity femininity as flesh – stretched, manipulated, and constricted against the inevitability of its own unravelling. Exhaustion is not simply a consequence of feminine labour, but rather evidence of the labour required to produce femininity. 

Through textile manipulation, shame, beauty, safety, and how self-surveillance consume the body, is materialised, while endurance is sanctified as virtue. Tender Flesh asks whose suffering is soft enough to be witnessed, romanticised, and mourned and whose bodies are made to suffer without beauty or witness. Not all suffering bodies are granted the same cultural capacity to be seen as vulnerable, sacred, erotic, or beautiful. 

On display at ECU's Spectrum gallery, Tender Flesh marks the first solo exhibition by recent ECU Visual Arts graduate Liv McIntyre and was developed in partnership with Perth Institute of Contemporary Arts, as part of Liv’s Graduate Studio Residency at PICA.
