The revitalisation of Newman’s town centre is now complete.
A State Government funded project, Newman’s town square is a place locals can visit by day to go shopping and meet up with friends, or at night it will attract families who want to enjoy live performances, community festivals, watch movies and sporting events.
A new destination for Newman is here.
The heart of Newman has undergone a huge transformation to become a vibrant cultural and business hub that is perfectly suited for the Pilbara environment.
The new town square has been beautifully designed to enhance Newman’s liveability and features landscaping, decorative shade structures, public art installations and an entertainment area which features a stage for live performances and includes a huge media screen.
In addition to the improved lifestyle amenities the new town square provides local and visiting businesses access to pop-up retail and office spaces in the new ‘business incubator’ facility which was a critical part of the project’s design to support and encourage Newman’s economic growth.
The State Government’s Pilbara Cities initiative has funded the $40million revitalisation project and it was delivered by DevelopmentWA in partnership with the Shire of East Pilbara.
DevelopmentWA and the Shire of East Pilbara signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) which details how both organisations would maximise the utilisation of the new facilities and manage the cost and maintenance of the new town centre.
The town square revamp builds on works already completed, including the development of a new east/west entry into the heart of the town, realignment of roads, upgraded power and wastewater services, quality landscaping, new car parks and an improved pedestrian and bike network. Newman is a critical service centre for some of the world’s biggest iron ore projects and is home to a growing close-knit community. The town square project demonstrates the State Government’s commitment to improve regional centres in Western Australia and make them even better places to live, work and relax.
