Transfer of Planning Authority

Transfer of Planning Authority from DevelopmentWA (under the Metropolitan Redevelopment Authority Act 2011) to the City of Perth/Armadale (the City) for a number of precincts within the Central Perth and Armadale Redevelopment Areas has now been finalised.

An applicable amendment to the Metropolitan Redevelopment Authority Regulations 2011 (regulations amendment) has been published in the Government Gazette and became operational as of the 6 May 2022.

Prior to this, DevelopmentWA and the local government, in consultation with Department of Planning, Lands and Heritage, has undertaken amendments to the Metropolitan Region Scheme and Local Planning Scheme to reintroduce land use zones and reservation for the precincts, consistent with the current redevelopment area planning framework.

This process (also referred to as Normalisation) results in the removal of the following areas from their respective Redevelopment Area:

  • Barrack Square Precinct within Elizabeth Quay
  • New Northbridge
  • Claisebrook (excluding Royal Street West Precinct)
  • Perth Cultural Centre
Armadale Redevelopment Area

Armadale Redevelopment Area

  • Forrestdale Business Park East Precinct;
  • West of Rail Precinct; and
  • Railway Station Precinct

DevelopmentWA is the State Government's central development agency operating across Western Australia with a diverse portfolio of industrial, commercial and residential projects. It was launched in 2019 as a result of the merger of the Metropolitan Redevelopment Authority and LandCorp. We are responsible for developing and administering the planning framework including Redevelopment Schemes, Development Policies and Design Guidelines and assessing and determining Development Applications.
